Sides for Episode 9x21

Wow, I can't believe that we only have three more sets of sides until the end of the season. Here's a summary of the sides that were recently posted by Windsprint on TwOP. http://forums.televisionwithoutpity.com/index.php?showtopic=3132277&st=43125

Frankie - Dr. Maurer is examining Frankie in the ER. Frankie studies the two FDA investigators in a discussion in the corner. Frankie was injured at a family BBQ, Dr. Maurer inquires about it, Frankie is focused on the FDA investigators as they place some tools in a baggy. Dr. Maurer asks Frankie why she went to the BBQ, Frankie says she's a minor and everything she does is by force. Frankie continues that she her parents forced her to the stupid bbq instead of editing the Spring Supplement, that its important to pretend not to hate the people she hates. Now her hand is ruined and her career is over. Dr. Maurer tells her that her hand is going to be fine. Frankie goes back to looking at the FDA investigators who are walking out of the ER. Dr. Maurer asks if Frankie has any questions. Frankie asks for her cell phone back and asks who on the staff is under investigation. Dr. Maurer is a little stunned.

OR Day - Dr. Maurer is injecting nerve block into Frankie's hand as Dr. Knox is setting up the anesthesia. Frankie is still trying to get info, asks Dr. M to confirm that there's some kind of investigation going on and that the FDA wants to talk to some doctor about it. Just nod if she's close. Dr. Maurer says to let it go. They go back and forth with Frankie saying its a real story here and she has an opportunity to be awesome. Dr. Maurer gets that, changes her approach and tells Frankie she has a responsibility to get the facts before reporting a story. Frankie says then give me the facts! This is the worst day of her life. Her family ruined her weekend and destroyed her hand. But she could have something good come of this, she could be awesome. Dr. Maurer reluctantly nods to Knox, who puts a mask on Frankie. Tells Frankie to count backwards from 10. Frankie says 10, 9, you're obstructing the free press, drifts and soon enough is out.

Al - In the OR waiting room Dr. Smith updates Al, Tony, Gunnar and the other t-shirted Kellers about Frankie. Dr. Maurer is with Frankie but the hand injury was more complicated than they thought. They're hoping with therapy that Frankie will have full use of her hand. Tony asks Al if he heard that, after a year of physical therapy she might get full use - might. Al says to look at the bright side, that she still has all her digits. Tony continues that her hand was crushed because Al poisoned the family then loaded them into the van, slamming Frankie's hand in the door. Al says he sorry but we're all here for you guys, that's why they are a family. Al opens his arms to hug Tony but instead Tony punches Al in the face, Al drops to the ground and the family screams.

Trauma Room - Dr. Smith stitches Al's broken nose and through the window we see the family in their Keller tshirts. Al tells Dr. S that its hard to plan and get everyone to come and he thought a BBQ would be fun. Dr. Smith asks why he does it because they don't seem to appreciate it. Al says they don't. He's the odd man out because they all have families of their own. But he has a family too, he has his brothers and sisters and he loves his nieces and nephews. He asks if its bad that he wants them all to have fun together. Dr. Smith says no. Al says you think you're doing the right thing and in the end all you get.... he touches his nose, his eyes look at his family outside.

Nancy - Patient room. Dr. Waite is updating Nancys (70s) and her daughter in law Dina on Dina's status. Nancy is a slight, frail woman and she's anxious knowing both her son Rob and DIL are in the hospital following a severe car accident. Dina is in bed and bandaged. She looks good but is still week when her 10 year old son Cody hops up on her bed. Nancy tells him to get down, Dina says its fine and puts an arm around Cody as he leans against her. She and Cody high five which horrifies Nancy. How can Dina make jokes when Rob is in the state he is in? Dina says that Dr. Waite says Rob is stable so they can go see him. Dr. Waite nods, Nancy seems terrified and says she doesn't think its a good idea.

Rob's Room - Dina is in her wheelchair at Rob's bedside with Cody beside her. Nancy is across from them looking down at her son. Rob is unconscious and hooked up to a bunch of machines. Dina takes Rob's hand and talks to him making jokes. Nancy tells her not to joke, Dina ignores and continues. Nancy lets out a gasping sob saying stop it, its not funny, none of this is funny. My son is dying. Its horrible and Dr. Waite steps forward telling Nancy Rob isn't dying. Nancy isn't listening and says it should be her. Nancy is breaking down. Its heart wrenching but completely inappropriate in front of Cody. He's terrified but Nancy can't stop crying.

Rob's room, day. Nancy and Cody sit at Rob's bedside. Nancy is worried about Dina who was rushed into emergency surgery. Dr. Waite enters, Nancy stands and asks him if she's ok. Dr. Waite shakes his head, says he's sorry. Nancy can barely process. She just sits looking at her comatose son. Cody stares at her waiting for something, anything but its as though Nancy is the only one in the room.

Just gonna be the first to ask for a translation. Any of these doctors our girls?

I think Dr. Maurer in the Frankie side is Callie (hand surgery).
Mar. 11th, 2013 12:22 am (UTC)
Not trying to get too excited, but it seems like Dr Maurer could be Callie. Feels like forever since she's had a patient that wasn't Derek.

New Hospital Name
Did anyone else see this....So, it looks like SGMW will be re-named Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. I saw the picture of the new badge in one of the spoiler pics. kind of like it, as it gets rid of SGM Death and starts anew. Also, a good way to continue the show as the "Grey's Anatomy" could become the hospital...is my guess.

Re: New Hospital Name
It was posted on here a few days ago.

So, if the injury really is hand related, then I would assume Callie is Dr. Maurer. If it's not the girl's hand that's injured and this is a false flag, then it's probably an Alex/Jo storyline. However, since the girl is very present even though she needs surgery, I'm going to lean towards the surgeon being Callie.

The girl talks several times about wanting to be awesome, which resonates with the doctor treating her. Callie's cartilage research seems to have gone well as did Derek's hand surgery, but the beginning of the season arc for Callie is her coming into her own as a surgeon on par with Derek, which we haven't yet seen.

If this doctor is Callie, then I'm also curious to know what, if anything, she has to do with the FDA investigation that's taking place. My current assumption is that the investigation is prompted by the doctor giving away the supplies to the Syrian doctors in episode 20. I don't think that doctor is either Callie or Arizona. I believe it's one of the interns. BUT, it feels like Dr. Maurer knows what the investigation is about, possibly who's on the hook, and sympathizes. Could it have anything to do with either Callie or Arizona? I think that's doubtful, but it's fun to speculate.

All the awesomes could be purposefully making Callie (and us) think of Arizona. Some anvil the opposite spectrum of being the bad guy in 9.03.

Mar. 11th, 2013 06:51 am (UTC)
The girl says awesome twice. Being the dorky fangirl, I noticed. However, theresaw has me almost convinced it's Jackson. I read the side again and I can hear his voice. I still think it could be Callie, but I'm going to try to not get my hopes too high.
Mar. 11th, 2013 07:06 am (UTC)
It kinda does sound more like Jackson's voice. Dang!
Mar. 11th, 2013 10:01 pm (UTC)
Hey - they could work together on the case-right?
Mar. 11th, 2013 02:32 am (UTC)
the FDA investigation that's taking place

Wondering if this is perhaps a cover for some accreditation outfit checking out the hospital because of new ownership???
Mar. 11th, 2013 05:16 am (UTC)
It could be almost anything. But going back to "our" Seasons 1-3 interns who were always breaking the rules, the scene that's called out in episode 20 of the doctor handing over a bunch of medical supplies to the visiting Syrian doctors (seemingly without permission) made me think that this event could prompt an investigation. It could be Heather in order to give the actress an out if her new series is picked up. (Of course, thus losing my favorite intern...sigh.)
Mar. 11th, 2013 05:43 am (UTC)
My compliments for remembering her name. I have the Weepy and the Mousy identified, but aside from those two......

The three for five exchange has made room at the trough even more limited and my investment harder to make.

The investigation could be almost anything. Certainly so - just thinking they may want to ride this new ownership and complications out until the finale.

And then Mt. St. Helens, or whatever.

"The investigation could be almost anything. Certainly so - just thinking they may want to ride this new ownership and complications out until the finale."

Oh absolutely -- to me, any problem at the hospital that involves the FDA coming to investigate invariably brings this new team into the thick of things.

Something else to throw out there is hospital born infections of some sort. Episode 20 has two patients returning to the hospital because they're ill again.
Mar. 12th, 2013 05:55 am (UTC)
Since KMK confirmed Grey's is doing a story on Syrian doctors, I'm wondering if JCap's retweets of Ewan McGregor is another of her cloaked hints.
Mar. 11th, 2013 03:32 pm (UTC)
if it is Callie, she'd know due to the group now running the hospital, it might hit Callie because she was in the peace corps and knows how little people have to work with.
Mar. 11th, 2013 01:41 am (UTC)
I was thinking Jackson. BBQ - burn. Plus it sort of parallels where he's at now - family legacy, making his own mark / being his own man. Possible hospital accreditation or some sort. Callie may be called into help, but maybe not.

Don't really see anything C/A related unless one steps in to help with someone with something.

I'm not good at this stuff though so who knows.
Mar. 11th, 2013 01:52 am (UTC)
It definitely could be Jackson with all of the family stuff going on in the episode. The side for Al describes her hand getting crushed in a car door because everyone ended up with food poisoning from the bbq and (I assume) were rushing to leave. But a burn from the BBQ makes perfect sense.

I've got a pretty subpar track record with these things, but I always love speculating. I do think Callie's surgical expertise will be highlighted before the end of the season because it was brought up in the first two episodes.
Mar. 11th, 2013 02:28 am (UTC)
I do think Callie's surgical expertise will be highlighted before the end of the season because it was brought up in the first two episodes.

Yes, I want to see this as well. I think we need to see Callie's professional expertise highlighted and acknowledged (perhaps via one of the professional sport teams in Seattle or some prestigious someone making a trip to Groan Memorial - er Grey Sloan Memorial because she's the best.

I'd also want to see Arizona lead and be successful in a surgery as we've only heard about the outcome this season, and then she fell down after the surgery. I'd like to see her just do it and do it well and not have others outshine her accomplishment.
Mar. 11th, 2013 02:38 am (UTC)
I most definitely want to see Arizona thrive, which includes as the kickass doctor/surgeon she is. They better show it to us before the end of the season, but I'm not going to hold my breath.
Mar. 11th, 2013 07:05 pm (UTC)
Quite a few new sides are out. Mass influx of bickering patients into the ER. I'm calling Stacy McKee.
Mar. 11th, 2013 07:34 pm (UTC)
Oops, I deleted and now have to rewrite. But there are a ton of new sides. Most of them are for the family that were at the BBQ together and now have food poisoning. If I had to guess a writer, I'd guess Guzman, but like McKee, he's written three episodes this season which should disqualify them both.

However, we do learn that one of the doctors is being sued for malpractice. It also appears like it may be for a PEDs case...I'll just let that linger with everyone for the moment.

Mar. 11th, 2013 07:41 pm (UTC)
The tone and structure is very Guzman, too. Very well could be.

Since the boy, Mark, isn't being cast, I actually wondered if the 50 year olds are the grandparents of the boy Owen bonded with and they filed a complaint or something. Can't quite figure it, but it's weird there's no side for Mark.
Mar. 11th, 2013 07:47 pm (UTC)
I wonder if Owen is still Chief at this point.
Mar. 11th, 2013 07:53 pm (UTC)
I hope not!
Mar. 11th, 2013 07:50 pm (UTC)
it's funny that it's come to the point I'm crossing my fingers for Guzman since I feel like that'll mean good stuff for Calzona.

I don't think the kid is Aidan as it seems his mom likely dies in this episode. We'll have to be on the look-out for Mark sides.

Mar. 11th, 2013 07:58 pm (UTC)
Maybe Mark isn't a speaking part. You'll have to map the sides for the Owen and his aching womb SL because I zone out a little on that one. ;)

Can't believe Arizona would face a malpractice suit at this point in her season's arc, but who knows...
Mar. 11th, 2013 08:05 pm (UTC)
I tend to think it's going to be Alex facing the lawsuit IF it's a PEDs doctor that's facing it. (The side has one of the parents saying that the doctor being sued operated on his son.)

I selfishly kind of like Alex being sued because it gives Arizona a chance to stand up for him and also for her to show her stuff as the kick-ass surgeon she is.

Mar. 11th, 2013 08:15 pm (UTC)
I'm lame and still want Arizona to find out it was Alex who did her amputation. No matter how much it does or doesn't matter now.
Mar. 11th, 2013 08:21 pm (UTC)
Hey, maybe it's Arizona who decided to sue Alex for malpractice once she learned about the amputation. j/k (Careful what you wish for)
Mar. 11th, 2013 07:45 pm (UTC)
Malpractice for a peds case? I swear...that would be our luck.
Mar. 11th, 2013 07:55 pm (UTC)
If there's a malpractice PEDS lawsuit, I could see it as Alex taking the fall for Jo. I mean, we've seen Arizona in surgery once this season, so if it would be a random thing we never saw, that would be pretty damn stupid.
Mar. 11th, 2013 08:06 pm (UTC)
I pretty much hate that idea but it'd be very Grey's. Clearly Arizona is too busy being all Chiefy to do surgery. Let me dream. ;)
Mar. 11th, 2013 08:11 pm (UTC)
I do think Arizona could end up being Chief, so I'm with you.

I'm in the minority that sees the big mojo and the sex separately.
Mar. 11th, 2013 08:20 pm (UTC)
I understand about the mojo and sex as separate things, I just thought that the context of Shonda's remarks linked them together. There were other remarks made about Arizona thriving that makes me need her to be awesome as a PEDs surgeon again.
Mar. 11th, 2013 08:23 pm (UTC)
Hmmm, maybe it'll have something to do with the mom who dies in labor. But will that be Alex or Jo's boyfriend?
Mar. 11th, 2013 10:11 pm (UTC)
My head is spinning. I think I'm screwing the episode events up --- Alex works with Jo's boyfriend in 19 - is that right? Is that also when the Mom dies in labor?

or should I think not FDA but lead into malpractice when you said:
"Episode 20 has two patients returning to the hospital because they're ill again."

What ever causes them to come in again could lead to a malpractice perhaps.

or is the FDA a simple guise for getting the ER accredited. I would think that since it closed and is now reopened, you don't just get your magic wand back. You have to be re accredited or certified or whatever...

Asking because don't they say something about the doctors learning there is more responsibility to being on the board in 18? Do you see anything that suggest a screw up anywhere prior to 21?

Long way of saying if there is a malpractice or FDA or FDA getting involved because of something it could happen anytime between now and 21 right?
